Civic / Municipal
PLJBD's extensive experience in civic and municipal projects demonstrates their expertise in navigating local, regional, state, and federal codes and regulations, enabling them to develop comprehensive, compliant designs that serve the community's needs effectively.
Joplin Regional Airport Terminal
This 26,000 S.F. Airport Terminal Building was designed using regional materials and large expanses of glass to incorporate natural day lighting and enjoy the views of the surrounding area. The terminal is designed for 2 airlines, 2 rental car agencies, and 3 passenger gates. The master plan allows for growth in the hold area as well as the ticket gates. The building team included Ed Jones Architects.
Dr. Clark Justice Center
PLJBD was selected to design the renovation of the Municipal Building into a Justice Center. Responsibilities Included:
- Scheduling meetings with the Police Department, Fire Department, Prosecuting Attorney’s office, and Courts Department to determine their space needs.
- PLJBD developed a schedule of construction phases that allowed the departments to remain in the building during construction.
- The former Council Chamber was converted into a courtroom that accommodates over 150 people.
- A memorial and display were built for the Police Department.
- A storm/fire resistant evidence building was added to provide a secure environment to store crucial evidence.
Vernon County Courthouse
- This project included transforming an unfinished attic space of a century old courthouse into the judge's chambers. The judge's chambers included judge's offices, conference room, and offices for their support staff.
- Exposed brick walls with large arched openings highlights the space. New finishes include pressed tin ceilings, a locally manufactured product. An original, very distressed stair leading to the clock tower was left as a feature to not only provide access to the clock tower, but to define this as a space repurposed from an unfinished attic into a functioning dynamic office space.
